Dragging your mouse, opening files or browsing internet taking more time than usual? Is your computer running slow? I have prepared below check list to overcome from these issues.
Same as other machines and devices computer also require maintenance and cleaning to work efficiently. You can check each point one by one, and it should help you to speed up your computer speed.
Uninstall non-required applications
After the certain months most of the devices have number of application available and some of them installed for temporary purpose. Even particular application is in use but not up to date with latest release. To check this on windows computer, please open control panel of your computer, (then select Viewby Large or Small Icons), go to Programs and Features. Here you can see all the installed programs.
Tips – Filter by Installed on, this will help you to sort latest and oldest and easy way to find which applications were installed in the past and not in use. Delete unwanted applications.
Check hard drive storage
Check hard drive capacity and usage. You can search for Storage setting on your windows computer and related details such as total GB, used GB, which apps & parts are utilizing how much space. Firstly, you can delete temporary files. Secondly, based on occupied space you can go to particular section and delete unwanted files and folders.
Tip – You can use treesize software, it will calculate all the folders and file size available on your computer and will give you sorted information, so you don’t need to manually find and check individual folders and file size.
Install Antivirus software
Because of increasing cybercrime day by day, it is strongly recommended to install antivirus software. Most of the companies provide customized feature for scanning computer. Sometime your computer might be little slow if you have less space on your hard drive and software scanning your computer system files. This software also cleans up non-legitimate files and notify to you. This will really help you to keep your computer safe and clean.

Disable unnecessary applications on computer startup
You may not aware of this but when you turn on your computer, some of the selected and some windows default application automatic starts and runs in the background. From the Task manager, select Startup menu and you will find which applications are currently enable. You can verify and disable the applications which you really do not use frequently.
Check RAM size
RAM is a key component of your computer device and especially for working on multiple applications at same time. On windows you can search for View RAM info or go to about your PC and you will find device installed RAM. If you are tech savvy person or using varieties of apps on your computer, I would prefer to use 16 GB RAM and if not support by your device at least 8 GB will be minimum. If you have only 4GB RAM installed, you are require to upgrade RAM.
Update Windows
Microsoft release new future and security updates quite often. Currently they release monthly update on second week of the month. And big update once a year. You can set auto update or manually update your windows device by searching check for update setting and click on check update option.
This will help you to fix number of issues and also will secure your computer.
Update Drivers
You can check and update device driver, go to Device Management. Right click on device and Update driver
Remove Temp files
Search for the temp files. There are different type of temp files, and files relevant to particular application. Generally, you can search for the temp files in setting and delete it.
Clear browser history and cache
If you haven’t cleaned your internet browser from long time, go to history and clear all history or select history duration and clear. Please make sure to save browser bookmarks if you haven’t.
